A Journey Through Pancreatic Cancer: James Moss’ Inspiring Story
Receiving a cancer diagnosis is a life-altering experience, and for James Moss, that moment came unexpectedly. Diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic adenocarcinoma in late 2022, James faced overwhelming challenges while navigating his health and personal life. With a rich background in entrepreneurship and neuroscience, he turned his focus toward recovery and helping others.
Diagnosis and Initial Struggles
In 2022, James began to experience severe symptoms, including debilitating cramps, light-colored stools, and alarming bouts of yellow vomiting. These symptoms were particularly concerning as he was also battling congestive heart failure and pneumonia. Under the care of Dr. Minh Hang at the VA Atlanta Healthcare, a series of scans and tests culminated in a life-changing diagnosis on November 10, 2022, just a day before Veterans Day. This news came as he was already managing a difficult personal situation, including a recent divorce and extended hospitalization.
Surgical Intervention and Chemotherapy
Following his diagnosis, James sought treatment at the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital and the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. His surgical procedure, a pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPPD), was performed by Dr. Terry Wright and took an astonishing 16 hours. The surgery was a significant step, after which James underwent six months of chemotherapy. Although the treatment was challenging—weakening his immune system and causing side effects like diarrhea—he found it bearable and essential for his recovery.
Progress and New Perspectives
Today, James has shed 130 pounds, has a pacemaker and defibrillator, and has seen his cancer stage improve from stage IV to stage III. As he reflects on this transformative journey, he embraces a new outlook on life, transitioning from a 3D to a 5D mindset. More importantly, he is eager to return to his passion for empowering youth through entrepreneurship programs, aiming to inspire the next generation.
