A new edition of the Korngold Violin Concerto in D Major features performance notations by renowned violinist Jascha Heifetz, edited by his protégé Endre Granat. Korngold, an Austrian composer exiled by the Nazis, aimed to reclaim his artistic integrity after World War II. He composed the concerto in 1945, dedicating it to Alma Mahler, and it premiered in 1947 with Heifetz and the St. Louis Symphony, receiving an enthusiastic reception. Heifetz’s performances, including a notable one at Carnegie Hall, helped establish the piece in the standard repertoire, making it Korngold’s most popular work.
